Marinship Studios

Marinship Studios is located near the water’s edge in the historic town of Sausalito. We aim to reinvigorate the site known as Gate 5 where the likes of Maya Angelou, Gordon Onslow Ford, Allen Ginsberg, Jean Varda and Ruth Asawa, and others worked and lived.

ABOUT

Gate 5, located in the northern end of Sausalito known as Marinship, was a thriving community of artists, philosophers, writers, and poets that dates back to the 50s. the likes of Maya Angelou, Gordon Onslow Ford, Allen Ginsberg, Jean Varda and Ruth Asawa, and others worked and resided here, forming a key part of California and American culture in this single place on the edge of the San Francisco Bay.

Marinship Studios envisions reinvigorating this creative community. Currently offering over 7000 sq ft of total studio space (12 studios and 2 live-work residences), communal space and event rental space, Marinship Studios is dedicated to creating an active studio environment and supporting creative endeavors in the Bay Area Arts Community.
